Modem Error 633 on Inspiron 1100
Ok here it goes.
Inspiron 1100 running xp home edition
I have a Inspiron 1100 and every time I try to connect I get the Error 633 port is in use. I have gone into device manager and uninstalled the modem BCM V92 in safemode and restarted and still get the same. I have also used msconfig and clicked all start up programes and restarted and still get the same. Under device manager I have showed all devices including hidden and It shows under non plug and play parallel port driver and USB-IDE Bridge both with a yellow exclamation mark. I have run virus scans and many spyware scans. Another interesting note is that under device manager I have no ports listed at all.
Any help on this would be great!!
This is what is under the serial port setting under device manager

You can try to find what all those processes are yourself, by entering your log "here" and clicking "Submit".
After it processes your log, you can then click a link for each item... similar to the example below: (click on "acsd.exe", below)
acsd.exe c:\progra~1\common~1\aol\acs\acsd.exe 1488 8 204800 1413120 4/11/2005 3:03 PM 1,0,17,5 1.31 MB (1,376,360 bytes) 2/5/2004 11:22 PM
Did you remove any Spyware/Malware or Trojans/Viruses just before you started having these problems?
If this was the cause... then try to reset the TCP/IP connection stack with the "Winsock XP Fix utility - download page". There are instructions "here", if you need them.
There's also another successful Winsock fix utility to try if the other doesn’t help ("LSP-Fix - download page".)
If this problem was caused by the "installation of WinXP SP2"... see if "this article" might help.
Since it seems that you're using AOL... have you tried removing/reboot and re-install AOL?
Sometimes with AOL it is better to edit the registry after uninstalling it. And sometimes it might be quicker to re-install windows and other programs... then install AOL last (instead of troubleshooting AOL problems).
Also, you might want to configure your processes using the "Safe Method" of the Configurations guide, "here", to eliminate unneeded Processes.
For Microsoft's explanation of a WAN miniport... "click here".
There's also a tool ("WinRescue XP") that has help a few users recover from a DUNs Error 633 message. Supposedly, it restores the WinXP registry to default settings. (I haven't tried it, yet)
Aloha,
Rod
