Modem information is corrupt
I have a Dimension 4100 that had a hard drive crash. Reinstalled ME. My original conexant modem quit a year ago. Had a US robotics V.92 (USR5610B) installed. Problem is - windows finds the V.92 modem but when I go to Modem properties I get "The modem prpoerties cannot be displayed because the modem information is corrupt." Under diagnostics it says "COM1 No modem installed."
COM1 is IRQ 4
Under System ICON on Control Panel. Modem is listed separate as IRQ10. I have tried different PCI slot and all that changes is the IRQ #.
How do I reset modem driver and merry these two together? Is this a modemui.dll problem or a windows reinstall problem?
Any help would be appreciated.

huthut,
The modem should not be on COM1 on your Dimension 4100. COM1 is the 9 pin serial port on the back of your computer. To completely remove your old US Robotics modem driver, uninstall it from Safe Mode Device Manager and also remove the Unimodem Half Duplex Wave Device which will appear under Sound Video and Game Controllers in Safe Mode Device Manager. You can also download wmregdel.exe from here. Run it and it will remove registry entries relating to your USR Winmodem.
After you have done this, locate a file called telephon.ini and delete it. Then, locate a file called tapiini.exe and run it. Removing a corrupt modem initialization file and recreating it with a clean modem driver installed should eliminate your error.
BTW, what COM port is your modem on?
