Modem on Hold with Conexant HSF V.92 56K Data Fax PCI Modem
I have the following modem and driver installed:
Modem: Conexant HSF V.92 56K Data Fax PCI Modem (Dell Part #6F798)
Driver: Version 3.5.18.8 dated 8/17/2001 by Conexant
The Dell CD with modem drivers, PhoneTools, etc. does not contain software that I can readily identify as modem on hold software.
Questions:
Where do I obtain modem on hold software for this modem?
Do I need an updated driver?
When I log onto a v.92 access line at my ISP, how do I know that I'm actually in v.92 mode and that modem on hold is functioning?
Thanks,

After you read this, search the board for more detail.
Your modem probably won't work with this at all. The driver ifor this modem is no good. If you have call waiting, test this by going on line, making certain first that in your dial-up you did NOT disable call waiting. Then have someone call in. This will likely freeze your computer, and you will have to reset power. This modem does not have an up-to-date driver and crashes the entire computer when it gets the call-waiting signal. You will have to deal with Dell to get a modem that works (I eventually got the BCM "Don Julio" from them), or get one on your own (they can be had for under $30, and you can get a "hard" PCI modem, rather than a "soft" one, it will alos come with MOH software. This problem has been reported to Dell many times, and they still do nothing about it, make you jump threough hioops, and don't even let their support people know what is happening. It's really pitiful. There is no later driver for this modem that works, either in Conexant, nor in Microsoft's DB.
Anyway, if you get this running under Dell, the MOH software may or may not have been installed. It's on the Phone Tools Disk. Also look for a specific Control Panel, "Dell Modem On Hold. If that is in your control panels, activate it, that's all there is. Otherwise, install from the CD.
As for v.92, there are problems there. Look for posts here from "Akule". Most of the internet in the US is handled by "Level 3 Communications", and they pulled a fast one on the isp's they lease to. They have set Modem on Hold to "Off" on their network early this year, and only turn it on for an isp who complains. So your isp has to do it.
The test is get a properly working modem that does not crash the computer with an incoming call, get MOH running, log on, let someone call in. If you are NOT alerted, open the MOH panel, it will likely say "Waiting for Decision". You can then confirm the connection by searching for the hidden MOHlog text files, open the current one, it will show all kinds of detail, including whether or not the connection is v.92.
Good luck and like I said, search here.
