andria,

By doing a system restore, you have effectively rolled back your modem driver to the previous version.  If you want to reinstall your modem driver, you should remove the modem reference from Device Manager and you should use the modem driver CD that came with your system.  Check the instructions in this Dell KB article:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=1067466&c=us&l=en&cs=&s=gen

While the article references the Dimension 2200 system, it is the same modem in your computer (Patron).

Steve,

I tried installing the Modem Drivers for 3 times and after step 7. the screen freezes. In Phone and Modem Options when I access Diagnostics there is a window stating that the port is used by another application. I don't known what it means.

Thanks,

Andria

andria,

The problem that you are having points to a messed up modem driver.  Reinstalling it again and again will usually not fix such a problem.  It just confuses things more.  You will need to uninstall the modem driver(s) from Safe Mode Device manager and again through Add/Remove programs.  Then you may be able to get the modem driver to install correctly.

Running a Dell 8250, Win XP Pro, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB HDD, etc.

Had to re-install WINDOWS OS after a crash and I'm having trouble with the modem (cable modem) connecting to the internet. The ISP indicates that I need driver software. The modem plugs into the PC chassis and is not an installed card. I have no earthly idea how to obtain this software and do not know the model of the motherboard nor where to look to obtain same - any suggestions.

Steve,

No way Jose. I tried everything by the book, to no avail. I also tried uninstalling Modem helper but w/o success. When I run the CD(1K636)  it works until I click X, then screen freezes.

Thanks,

Andria
