NETGEAR Wireless WGT624 v3 & WGT111T USB Adapter PROBLEMS

Here is my problem. 4 days ago I received my new PC(Dell E510) that I ordered last week. My father went out to buy a NETGEAR WGT624 Wireless router and a NETGEAR WG111T USB 2.0 Adapter. They're both 108 Mbps Wireless products. Here's a simple problem outline I have.

1. I hooked up the modem/NETGEAR router to the 1st PC (Old PC) and installation and everything was succussful.

2. I installed the Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter to the 2nd PC (new PC that came in) and Installation was successful.

3. I notice that on both PCs that I'm downloading at a very slow rate then average. My average download speed was 140-150 KB/sec

4. On PC #1, it downloads less then 40 KB/sec. It would be 140 KB/sec in the beginning then it would drop MASSIVELY to around 10 kb/sec

5. On PC #2, it downloads at 90 KB/sec and gets lower and lower and higher and higer. Example: 90 kb/sec -> 85 kb/sec -> 98 kb/sec -> 55 kb/sec

Conclusion - Is there anyway to make both PCs download at the same and average download speed I once had? Average download speed for me was 140-160 KB/sec. Please help! Oh, and I have a Speedstream 5100 ADSL modem and my ISP is SBC and I'm located in Northern California.

Are the two computers both using wireless?
Is any other computer (device) also using the same access point? (What about neighbor?)
My hunch is that you want it to run at the 108 Mbps
?
If any other device gets on the wireless access point at the same time, the speed will drop down to the slowest (could even be 11 mbps or 54 mbps or less)
What channel (either 11 or 1?)
Carry-around telephone (causing interference)?
