Netwokr card not working.. integrated
For the past month i have not been able to get my integrated card to work, and well, the sent a tech out with a new motherboard, nd it still didnt work. We tried reformatting and everyhting witha senior tech while the tech was at my house. They can't figure it out and they are sending a new motherboard, what do u think?

Try this, go to Start>Run and type CMD and press Enter
At the prompt, type:
Ping 127.0.0.1
If you do not get a timed out response, the card is working fine. We need to look elsewhere for a problem. Sounds like a software setting turning it off.

You refer to an integrated NIC so what do you mean you installed another one? You replaced the MOBO but did you also install a new NIC? Nothing is impossible and yes you can disable the NIC from the BIOS. What does the Device manager show? A yellow Exclamation mark next to the network adaptor indicates a problem. No Yellow mark means it is installed properly and you have disbaled it somehow.
It's either hardware or software so don't go looking for ghosts that aren't there.

Lets see what's in this machine - can you open a DOS shell - Start ->Run ->cmd
Execute the command "ipconfig/all" and paste the results here........

It has not been disabled in Bios, the tech checked that and I DOUBLE checked that, it seems very confusing to me. The senior tech said he wasnt going to send another motherboard so he is just sending a new sytem which i am gettign a STEAL out of! My Dimension 4550 COnfig is this:
P4 2.53
256 PC 2700
60 gb HARD DRIVE
The new machien beign sent is a Dimension 4600 P4 2.66 and a 80 GB HD with all other specs the same as shown below:

This will show what your machine believes its network interfaces are.

If that's the total output - then you do have a hardware problem - you PC is not recognising your integrated or PCI bus NIC - otherwise I would have expected to see something below. Currently your PC has no network adaptors it can use - so recheck "Device Manager" for yellow exclamation marks - and NEtwork Adaptors for any conflicts
Normal output for "ipconfig/all" with working adaptors would include
0 Ethernet adapter :
1 Ethernet adapter :
Description . . . . . . . . : 3Com EtherLink PCI

Here's a cheap fix:
Go to CompUSA ,etc and spend $10 on another NIC. If it does not work, then you have a configuration error that would show up in the device manager. Have you checked that? (It's been suggested twice).

OK LET EM ANSWER ALL THSI AT ONCE READ PREVIOUS THREADS... I have already tried another NIC, with no avail, while the tech was at my house. Then yes there is an exclamation point next to the NIC, which was there before the new motherboard, and after the new motherboard, so what is next on the suggestion trail to success.

Do you have the latest drivers for the NIC? IIf so, where did you get the driver? Not from Microsoft I hope. Try Intel.
Is the BIOS up to date?
