Network Hardware disconnected

just bought a used Insipron 1150. Decided to install a fresh Windows. Lost a bunch of drivers...was NOT a recovery CD!!
Anyway, found all the drivers here ( I think), hardware accepted them, but gives me the "hardware disconnected/unplugged" thing. Can't access any network of course. All appears well in device manager....
Where to go from here?

Thanx in advance for any help

You will see that message if you have not plugged an ethernet cable into your LAN port from your router.

Thanx for the reply. I am talking about a wireless ethernet. Are saying if I plug  in an ethernet cable just once, it will fix that message? Then I can access wirelessly???

A wireless card will not have an ethernet port. Only wired network cards have ethernet. You should check to see if you have both a wireless card and an ethernet card installed. No such thing as "wireless ethernet." Look in System Properties, Hardware, Device Manager. You can set up a wired connection to the router using the ethernet card. You might have to add a wireless card for wireless access.

it definitely has a built in wireless card. I tested it before I bought it. It even picked up  a hot spot from a nearby bookstore from the parking lot where I was. It also has an RJ45 port. So it has both. But the driver I "forced" it to take apparently wasn't the right one, even though in device manager, it's there and says is working properly.

The Dell driver page has several  diffrent wireless card and controller drivers for my model/service tag.. I guess I can download them all, burn em to  a CD, unistall the current driver and let it find hthe correct one from there?

I learned a hard lesson though. NEVER reload the OS on a newer Dell unless you are certain you have all the correct drivers. Most other mfg's include a restore CD , so you don't have to go thru all this mess. Why doesn't Dell???

Very frustrating

well, I finallly got everything working......somehow I overlooked the W/LAN utility in Control Panel....duh.  Set up everything in there, still no luck, then unplugged my router for a couple minutes and when I plugged it back in, Woo-Hoo.....got it!

Thanx for the comments.

I have the 5150 with the same issue.  Only I cannot connect to the internet.  When I try, the fan kicks in, I don't connect.  Any advice?

only thing I can suggest, is the same thing I did. Look in Control Panel, and look for (in my case)  a little black antenna icon. It was the Utility for setting up the onboard wireless card. I have no clue why the fan would kick on when you try to connect..??

Now that I think of it, I have a friend who had a similar issue, and she discovered her kids had somehow hit the disable toggle from the systray  network icon...sometimes it's the simplest things that drive ya nuts....
