Network Problems Windows 7 and Vista 32

Network Problems With Dell Inspiron Windows 7 and laptop using Vista 32.

The net is awash with possible solutions to this but nothing seems to work.

My Dell Inspiron 560 64 bit is plugged into the Modem to the internet.  My Acer laptop Aspire 7720G runs on Vista 32 bit.  It has a wireless connection to the modem and onto the Internet.

The net work mapping shows each other. But I've not been up to share any files or folders.

I've now exhausted my limited understanding of computers.

Can anyone direct me to a suitable link that will take me through the process step by step. Again!

 BinCanada,

When you're connected...

How to login to your wireless router

Use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11.

Firewalls and virus programs can hinder communications.

Thank you for answering my message.

My Dell came with Windows 7.    Both laptop and desktop are connected to the internet.

No ideas about wireless security.  It is encoded.....where would it say?

 BinCanada,

Your Dell Inspiron 560 Winodws 7 64-bit...

Was this purchased with Windows 7 or upgraded to Windows 7?

Are you connected to the internet or are you having problems connecting?

What type of security and channels are you using in your wireless router?
