Network Setup Wizard
I have a Dimension 8200 in my home office. I recently purchased another computer for a different room in the house and would like to set up a network to share the printer/files/etc.
I have tried the Network Setup Wizard several times and I always get a failed message. It does not tell me why it failed but that I can try changing some settings and run it again or try to do it manually.
The Dell is connected to the internet via DSL from the port in the back to a Netgear Cable/DSL Web Safe Router (RP614 v2). From there I connected the other computer through a Wall Plugged Ethernet Bridge XE102. Both computers are on the internet with no problems.
The setup wizard is straight forward. You simply select which computer is connected directly to the internet. Then the type of connection (LAN). Then you provide a description a name and a workgroup name. All in all not a lot of moving parts. Very straight forward. It just does not work.
I have no idea how to set it up manually. I have tried running the installation disk. I have tried a large variety of help menus and can not seem to get it to work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

All three are good links. Forget the setup wizard. Even MS admits it is faulty and will soon have a remedy for it with something new.
