Network authentication settings...

Question

I have an inspiron 9300 running windows XP media center with an odd network quirk.  Most of the time it works fine, but sometimes it will just lose its internet connection.  I repair the connection and it gets stuck at acquiring network address.  But, I then go into wireless network connections, change advanced settings, wireless networks, select my network and say properties.  When the system is working fine, the network authentification is open, a password, encription is WEP, and authentification is off.  However, the times its not working, the settings have changed to network authentification: WPA-PSK, with my password disabled and authentification turned on.  I change all the settings back and the network works fine again.  This happens every couple of days, no real consistency to it.  I don't move my computer or anything before these events, they just sort of happen.   Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening?  Its iritating when your computer does things you don't tell it to.

that's very unusual behavior.  i would suggest reinstalling the drivers and or utility (if you're using it).  are you using the card utility or XP to manage the connection?

I'm letting XP handle the networks.  This is only a problem with the one particular network, on others Istay connected and don't switch around.
