Network problems with inspiron 5100

My network stats is as follow:
Network: Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller
driver version: 3.60.0.0 driver date: 15/05/2003
on windows xp - english
when i plug in my LAN cable it's not detected the LAN connection icon still indicates a network cable unplugged. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the ethernet controller driver but no changes. when i plug another laptop to the same cable it detects the LAN instantly, i also went to device manger and checked if the ethernet controller was working properly and yes it is. Who knows what i should do next? please helpppp!!!

Thanx for your response. i did that and still did nt see any light. When plugged the switch indicated that a network cable is plugged but the laptop simply shows unplugged icon. Please assist further.

It sounds like either the socket is bad or the network card is bad.  If you are still under warranty, call Dell Tech Support.

wow.  I'm glad I'm not alone on this one, thought I was going crazy.  Basically the same issue as 'rkachikwu'

LAN works great on other PC's

LAN cable gets connected to my laptop and it says "disconnected"

Device Mngr says all is good.   lights up at the connect point just doesn't get me anywhere.

tried uninstalling everything, rebooting, and sometimes it recognizes and works, sometimes it works for a while, and if I try to run the LAN thru a wireless router as a hardconnect it bombs.  Saw somethng weird/new this evening - it flashed that it was disconnect, as if it were trying to setablish and couldn't.

thanks

T

Wow! What about the other 350,000 that are not having problems?  Did you ever consider that this forum is where people come when they are having problems.  They don't post a message telling us that there network card is working.
