No Connectivity after Installing Dell 1702 Driver for Wireless Adapter - Any suggestions?
Hi Everyone,
I am completely confused on this one and at my wits end.
I have a Inspiron M5110 Laptop and was having some trouble staying connected to my internet so this morning I decided I would try and update the drivers. I have uninstalled the Wireless and Blue Tooth drivers and reinstalled them, but now, it won't even TRY to connect at all. In the bottom right corner, there's a red x over the wireless bars, and says No Connections are available. Before , it would have a spinning circle while trying to connect, but it doesnt have that at all anymore. My Ethernet connection is working fine, I even uninstalled and reinstalled that driver (REALTEK) and its working with no problems. So its specifically wireless adapter issue...
If I run IPCONFIG, the wireless adapter doesn't even show up anymore. I've tried resetting, disabling, anything I could think of. I tried several versions too of the drivers, but nothing is working.
Right now, I removed it, so I have a yellow exclamation mark next to Network Controller in my Device Settings. My hardware ID for the adapter is PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002B&SUBSYS_02051028
I think from the above info, I believe the wireless adapter belongs to Atheros.
Does any body have any suggestions at all as to how I can get this thing to even attempt to connect to a network? I'm dead in the water... ANY insight would be so appreciated. I can paste screen shots or whatever, if you think it would help.
Thanks everyone,
Tim

Timmy1028,
Zone Alarm has cause systems not to connect. Not quite sure if you want to make sue your connection is allowed or if you have a product key, for your subscription, temporarily uninstall Zone Alarm.
The Dell Wireless 1702 802.11b/g/n connects on 2'4GHz ONLY.
Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled
Also try reading, How to repair a connection
Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then select your operating system. Under Network, download and install the latest drivers.
Try these tweaks....
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Click on advanced. Look and see if this adapter has Antenna Diversity. If the adapter does have Antenna Diversity, change it from Auto to Aux.(Can you also tell me if it does or does not have Antenna Diversity for my notes. Thanks)
Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.

Rick - you got it on the first try. Once I actually UNINSTALLED Zone Alarm, it came back. I had it disabled while I was doing my testing , but apparently I didnt disable everything.
So for future reference, if this happens to someone, uninstalling Zone Alarm was what did it for me. Adapter shows up in IPConfig, and I was able to connect.
Thanks Rick for responding, I really appreciate the thought.
