Please consult the following article, as it should assist in resolving your file sharing problem with your newly-added Windows XP client:

The Problem is not solved. I have reinstalled System, configured by Network-Assitent and manually.

The 2nd PC is in a lokal network without Domain-Controller and has the same problems, everything works (internet via router, networkshares to other

clients in network, network-printer and so on) but the PC is not shown in explorer under the workgroup, searching of the pc directly is possible.

I have tested to reinstall the network connection, deinstall client for microsoft networks, file and printer shares and the network adapter self.

Wen i do this and after boot the networkadapter is reinstalled and i add all protocolls and so on manually i will seen the pc in network, but wen i install

service pack 1a again, the same problem appears.

I think this is no solution to reinstall network connection after i have installed a new system or get a new pc from dell. This is not logical.

Do anybody know about this problem?

2.nd Chance, after i reinstalled network connection and configured network again it works, but when i shutdown pc and turn off power, after next boot

the pc is not seen in network again.

Is this a problem of windows xp, of the network adapter, i have this problem only with these two new Optiplex GX 270 Towers!

My Inspiron 8600 Notebook works fine.

The Question is why must i see pc in network, some Programs ex. Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition can only install an Client if the PC is shown in

Network or manually but i don´t like to do it manually.

If there is no Domain Controller then NT LM Security Provider and Browse Master must be enabled. Also Netbios must be bound to the same protocol on all machines. Netbeui is not on XP nor enabled. If on a lan but not the internet you can download and install Netbeui manually.

Netbeui is not routeable and not workable for internet based lans.
