I assume that you want to enable wireless security (encryption).  If so, the User Manual for your router can be viewed at:

In this document, go to Managing Your Router > Web Based Configuration Tool > Basic Settings > Wireless Security.

I strongly recommend that you use WPA encryption rather than the much less secure WEP encryption.

Are you logging onto the router's configuration page from a wired ethernet connection?   What kind of encryption are you trying to set, WPA or WEP?  For either case you have to enter an encryption key where it asks for it on the router.  You then have to enter that same key on each computer that is allowed to access the router.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "connect to the internet, click profile, properties, go through the steps of setting up a personal security system with password encryption and everything"  What internet site are you connecting to?  Note that the page at http://192.168.2.1 is not on the internet.  It is on your router.  I have no idea what you mean about setting up a profile.

Steve,

I appreciate your computer savy knowledge, unfortunately I am following the instructions and still not password protecting my router.

Is there something I have to do with the router (like get a number off it or something)? Just checking.

I connect to the internet, click profile, properties, go through the steps of setting up a personal security system with password encryption and everything. Once I click ok, its like it makes a new wireless connection, but my old connection is still there for the neighborhood to use.

If you have any more suggestions, I would welcome them with open arms (and mind).

Thanks

Katie
