Do you have one of the security suites running on the new computer (like Norton or McAfee)?  If so you must either diable the firewall or configure it allow local network access.

also make sure you can ping your router (gateway).  if you can ping the gateway, try to ping the other computer that your printer is attached to.  I agree though, it sounds like a firewall issue with your new pc.

my dell desktop that is running xp cant read my laptop.....and my laptop which is running vista doesn't read any other computer in my network....what else could be the problem?

I disabled the Mcafee firewall, but it still is not working.......

A few days ago someone suggested that I go to:
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center:
Go to Network Connections:
Right click and go to Properties:
Highlite Client for Microsoft Networks:
Click Properties:
Under RPC properties, drop down the bar and highlight Windows Locator...click OK....
Heres where I get confused.....At that point, it worked, I saw all the computers in my network......
But now, its not working again and The Windows Locator won't stay highlighted.....can someone tell me why and help me solve this perplexing problem?
