abxyz,

Click on network and sharing center, click on your connection, click on wireless properties. Make sure that only the top box is checked.

There should also be a setting to manage wireless networks. I would put the most used networks at the top. It will go through each network until it connects to the network you have saved.

I forgot to mention...

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.




Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.
