Use the Network and Sharing Center on the vista computer to set up the connection. It's different from XP setup and the help files actually are helpful. Right click on the network icon in the lower right corner to access the Network & Sharing Center or just type it in the Start box. Use the "set up a connection" wizard on that page. Local area connection is the ethernet card. It's Ok for that to be unplugged if you are using a wireless network connection.

I tried that and still couldn't get it to work.

I notice that "Network Discovery" was set to Off, but when I tried to activate it, it just sat there for about 10 minutes doing nothing and froze.

Originally, it all seemed to be set up fine - it just wouldn't connect to the internet. The only things I could find wrong were the fact that it was saying the Network cable was unplugged and on the little diagnostic diagram, it was showing a connection from the laptop to the router but no connection from the router to the internet. We used another laptop to see if it would connect and it did, so it wasn't the internet that was down.

Now, as I said, I've lost all of that. It's not finding any network connections at all and because I can't find any network connections, I can't manually set it up or anything.
