Is the D-Link product a router or a hub?
 
Okay, I answered my own question, it's a router.  You will need to open the port required for that game (called port forwarding or virtual server) to allow traffic back and forth thru the router.  Drag out the manual and read.  It's not that hard.

Well, either one of two things will happen, either you will continue to have the problem or resolve yourself to learn some basic networking skills.  Or pay me $125/hour and I'll come by and fix it.

i have an old DI-624 with a max speeed of 54MPps for wirelless and 100MBps for ethernet, or my wireless cards topped out at 54g

That is East coast and the meter starts ticking when I walk out the front door.  Seriously, read the darn manual.  It isn't that hard.
