I use the machine for .NET development. It's practical to use the server version(s) for testing purposes.

My first guess is the BIOS for the 8300 machine will not support 2000 but would support 2003.  Why spend the money on an 8300 to run as a server when you could setup a server for half what the 8300 costs? Just curious.

Look for the driver here:

Sorry but the link doesn't work. Why are these drivers not on the Dell site? It looks as if Dell only supports Windows XP.

Thanks!

On the driverguide I found a link to Intel. On Intel I searched for drivers for the "Intel desktop board D875PBZ". I downloaded the file: "pro_v8.0_65293_win2kxp.exe", version: 8.0.65293, date: 20-jun-2003. This file contains the drivers for Windows 2000 and XP. The driver installed without any problems on Windows 2000 Server.

THANK YOU, Frans, for posting your solution.  Like you, I have a Dell Dimension 8300, which comes with Windows XP, which I refuse to use.  I installed Win2K Pro (not server), and then discovered (oops!) that Dell doesn't support Win2K on this machine...NO drivers on Dell's website for the video card, the ethernet controller, or the USB controller.  I tried half a dozen Intel drivers for various flavors of EtherExpress without success, and then saw your post.  The driver you found works just fine under Win2K Pro...thanks; I was almost ready to give up.
