Promiscuous mode for 3c918 NIC

I am trying to setup my Dell Optiplex GX1, using a 3C918 NIC, running Windows 2000, driver version 4.31 (8/13/02) , to be in promiscuous mode.

1) Can you tell me if that is an OK driver to use or send me the path or info to a better driver.

2) What settings should I change to enable promiscuous mode?

Thank you, Monir.

Ethereal is a free network protocol analyzer for Unix and Windows. It allows you to examine data from a live network or from a capture file on disk. You can interactively browse the capture data, viewing summary and detail information for each packet. Ethereal has several powerful features, including a rich display filter language and the ability to view the reconstructed stream of a TCP session.

You need WINPCAP to go with it.

Thank you for the reply, but I am looking for NIC-related answers.  I am aware of ethereal software, that traces it, but the NIC first needs to have it enabled.  The problem I am facing is that the Dell PCs in the office don't have it enabled, and Ethereal is properly showing that they are not setup for promiscuous mode.

Can someone please tell me how to setup the NICs into promiscuous mode, and what NIC driver version to use?  Thank you ever so much.

You need to install WINPCAP before it works.

The 918 is 3C905B equivalent.
