Thank you for the suggestion, but it didn't quite address the issue. I don't want to remove the 'Wireless WLAN Card Utility'; I want to remove the 'Wireless enable/disable' utility. This little utility merely provides a way to enable or disable the wireless radio. I attach a copy of its icon (enlarged).
If you right click on the icon does it give you options? Somtime you also need to open the program, in this case the Dell wireless utitlity and look for settings or option or properties and look to see if there is an option to disable the tray icon.
Another thing would be to go to start > run> type msconfig. Hit enter and then click on the startup tab. look for the wireless utility icon and deselect it . This will stop the program from loading at startup. But if you are using the wireless then you would have to manually start the program.
msconfig worked; thank you. The enable/disable utility was identified as WSED. However, with this item un-checked, Windows pops up an annoying dialog when logging in, whining about a non-default system configuration. To prevent this:
delete the folder C:\Program Files\WSED, which contains a file WSED.exe, with the same icon as in the taskbar.
delete the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\WSED

If you want to eliminate the wireless program all together then delet the Dell Wireless utitility from Add/Remove programs.
If all you want to is get rid of the icon open control panel, network connections.
Right click on the wireless connection listing and uncheck the two boxes on the window that pops up. The ones that say Show icon....
and Notify me.....

jmkristian,
Stupid question! Do you see this on startup and want to disable this?

Problem solved, from my point of view.

jmkristian's solution is best. What a useless little program! Dell, you need to add an option to hide the icon.
