Runtime error

I am getting the following message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Abnormal program termination

When I get this, it wipes out any work that I am doing.  Has anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it?

fffoil,

Do you get any other runtime errors that refer to Microsoft Visual C++ ?  If not, then the problem is most likely with Internet Explorer itself.  You can uninstall and reinstall IE on your system.  Assuming that you have IE6, which came with Windows XP, you should check this MS KB article:

This error appeared last week while printing. MSFT Visual C++Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program:C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\W32x86\3\DLBAPS wx.exe. Now I can't print. There used to be a Microsoft website listing their error messages, but I can't find it now.

It's interesting that someone else has a runtime error within a week or so.

Can anyone help?

Saint196,

This thread found by searching Google groups for DLBAPSwx.exe describes your symptom exactly. The reported fix was to remove something called "MS Updates" from startup.

That is very likely a Trojan, according to this McAfee article and several others I found.

If your antivirus software is up to date, it should have been able to find this Trojan. Please make sure that your virus definitions are up to date, and scan your machine for viruses.

jimw: Thank you for your reply. I got help from AOL and somehow the error message disappeared. For what it's worth, at the time the error appeared my PC filled up with dozens of MSN files that we could not delete. They would delete and then return. Finally, after several days, deleting  them from bottom up finally erased them completely. The MSN folder remains in my PC, but it is empty. What I found interesting is that I do not use MSN. Thanks again for your help.
