Set up of Wireless Router

I am trying to install a Linksys wireless router for use with my Inspiron 6400. The cable that comes with the router won't fit into the plug on the back of the laptop--too wide--is there a connector with a push-in plug that is small enough to fit into the Dell plug opening?

Cable used during setup looks like a wide telephone modular connector, sounds like you tried it in the phone jack instead of the LAN (or Ethernet) jack. I think your notebook would have both connections.

yep you are trying to connect the ethernet cable (for linksys it is usually the blue cable) to a regular dial up modem outlet. for your inspiron 6400 there should be another outlet that can connect with that blue cable since the portable has a biult in ethernet card Broadcom® BCM4401
