Suddenly can't access computer on home network
I have 3 PC's on my home network. All are using WinXP. I have them setup to share folders across the network. I've been doing that for months, even years. All of the sudden, one of the PC's can't be accessed from the other two. I can't figure out why? When I'm on the PC that won't share files, I can share files with the other two PC's. But I can't go the other way. I have a WRT54G wireless Linksys router. Using McAfee Security software. I've disabled the software, but still can't access that one PC. I've rebooted all PC's and reset my router.
I've re-applied my sharing properties on the PC that won't allow the others to access it. It didn't help either.
I can't print across the network either.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Can you remeber downloading a recent update for your McAfee Security software before this problem started?

Try unsharing the folders and unsharing the printer, then reboot, then try re-sharing the folders and printer.

I'm seeing this problem with increasing frequency in this forum, McAfee Security software gets an update and misconfigures a file/files and the result is that you no longer have access to something. Even if you remove the software, it still leaves behind files(footprint) that prevents the system from rectifying the problem. I'm not to familiar with McAfee software so, the only suggestion I can offer is to do a System Restore to a point before the update and see if that fixes your problem?
Good luck!..

I unshared the folders, rebooted, shared again. It did not resolve the problem.
Thanks anyway.

Jlsohio - I have a similar problem when I connect my notebook to a Linksys WRT54G router using a cable, and can't connect to the internet or my LAN ( it keeps losing connectivity ), but no problem with the wireless connection with the notebook. Mine is an Inspiron 5100 , bought October 2003. At home I have 4 networked computers..an older Dell Dimension running Win 98, a Dell 8200 with Win XP Home SP2, a Dell 8400 ( bought March, 2005 ) with Win XP pro SP2.
I use Verizon DSL, and a Westell 2200 modem/router ( Verizon changed the setting to a straight modem from the beginning as it was conflicting with my first networking route, which was a Netgear wireless router ). All worked well until the Netgear router failed, and I bought a Linksys Wireless G router a few months ago ( and I still use the Netgear PC wireless card ).
All of the desktop computers network easily, and most of the time have internet access...sometimes I notice that I may have to turn off the DSL modem, router and computers and restart everythin to get internet access, but this is only over what may be a long weekend or long strectches of inactivity.
My Inspiron has a built-in Broadcom 440X 10/100 NIC card....I have tried changing cables, and that doesn't help. I can sometimes get it to work by simply disconnecting the cable from the router and the notebook, waiting a couple of minutes, and reconnecting. This sometimes works, but not all of the time. I also tried different ports on the router to connect the Inspiron, but it makes no difference.
Maybe there is a problem with the Dell Broadcom network NIC hardware ? Maybe it got banged up from carrying it around in my computer case ? I looked for updated drivers for this Broadcom NIC card, but can find none after March 2003...same version I already have.
Is it possible the Linksys router has problems with the Dell notebooks, or are there people with desktops , Win XP SP2 and Linksys routers having similar problems ?
Has anyone tried to call Dell...or Broadcom ?..or Linksys ?...or their ISP ?

Vman2 - I don't have any Bluetooth devices at all. Using Norton System Works on all of my computers, and recently installed an Ugraded Norton System Works 2006 on my Inspiron...actually installed on Nov 23, 2005. I have the box for the new Linksys Wireless-G broadband router, Model WRT54G, which replaced a Netgear wireless router ( which had a bad port on it )...looks like I installed the Linksys router on Nov 29, 2005.....it seems I have been having disconnect problems with my Inspiron beginning around that time ?...only with hard-wired connection...the Inspiron works great with wireless ( in fact, the connection speeds with the Linksys when using the wireless mode are better than I had with the Netgear wireless router ).
Last year, I had a problem with Blue screen of death ( BSOD ) on my new Dell Dimension 8400 ( purchased March 2005, blue screens started in June of 2005, and found that Microsoft Crash analysis had pointed me to an Intel site for download of a fix for my Intel chipset.....Dell told me not to do it, and it took about the next 4 months of searching for a solution, until I found others on the Dell forum who were experiencing the same problem with the Dell 8400...turns out one of the courageous among us downloaded the Intel fix, and guess what....totally cleared up that problem, after a very troublesome 4 + months of an unstable computer. I for one have not bothered to call Dell about the Inspiron connection problems...has anyone here ? Seems mysterious to me...I am not a geek, but am a one man show in my home office, and have had to figure lots of things out by searching the internet, talking to friends, younger people like my son and son-in-law, and forums like Dell, so that I can now determine when it is probably not just my computer that needs fixing, but a widespread problem with hardware or BIOS or patches for many users.
