True Mobile 1150 in a Latitude C640 and WPA-PSK w/TKIP
I have 29 Latitude C640 laptops.
they all have the Dell True Mobile 1150 (Internal Wireless)
I need to be able to use WPA-PSK w/(TKIP) encryption.
So I entered the express service tag and found a recent driver which says it supports WPA.
I downloaded it, installed it, and it does allow me to enter WPA-PSK mode and allows me to input the key but it will not connect.
I spend almost two hours on the phone with a Dell Wireless Support Agent, who finally tried to convince me that 802.11b does not support WPA. (ACK---_) When I asked why my service tag, input on the support page, takes me to a network driver for the TM 1150, which states the reason for the driver update is (Support of WPA in Windows XP), she placed me on silent hold, then elevated volume music hold, then transferred me to General Hardware support....
Has
ANYONE been successful in utilizing the True Mobile 1150 (aka Orinoco) and WPA. If so where did you download the driver and would you please send me a copy or the link.

Same results with a Latitude C800 with the same results. you would figure if the update was to add the WAP capability that it would work. Way to go.

Google on Orinoco WPA. If you are adventurous there is non-Dell firmware upgrade you can try.

Use file From Dell Download...R69905.... This file has to be installed from Device Manager. You have to tell the Dell truemoble card1150 to browse and download the file from your C\:Dell\Drivers\R69905 file....then reboot and apply your encryption codes for the WPA mode...and you should be up and running. Good Luck... My puter had xp pro on a Dell Latitude C640 laptop. This is the correct update file for WPA for the Dell Truemobile 1150 series Wireless Mini Pci Card. Most of this vintage of machines...weren't using wpa...they were using the older encryption type..with less numbers, that is why you can't get it to work as a rule. The Dell factory (2002)recovery CD,,,,sets you to the old style encryption , I think that file was R69901, this happens after you do a clean install of WIN XP...and then install the Dell Recovery disc, which has the old driver on it for the 2002 version type encrptions. The current WPA....and the upgrade file for WPA is (R69905) Hope this helps...as with any puzzle if you screw it up enough...you will get it right...JUST TIRED AND FRUSTRATING! Hope this helps.
