It is unclear from your message how you are setting things up.   Assuming that you are making an ethernet connection between the modem and the router's WAN or Internet port, did you reset the modem before changing the connection.   To reset the modem, you need to turn the modem, the router, and all computers off.   Wait 5 minutes, turn the modem on, then wait another few minutes, then turn on the router and finally turn on the computer.  If you switch back to the USB connection, then you need to do the same thing again, always waiting after turning everything off and turning on the modem first.

I am only trying to get the modem to work with the ethernet cable as of now.  The router is yet to be hooked up.  The modem was set up using USB and I installed a new network card today.  My computer detects the card and says that it is working fine.  I recieve a confirmation that I am connected to the network but I still cannot receive anything.  Should the modem that was setup on USB be able to just plug into the network card and work?

Again, whenever you change the device connected to the modem, you have to reset the modem.  In this case you are changing the device from a USB device to an ethernet device.  Thus, you need to follow the reset procedure.
