Unable to connect to DHCP Server
Hi
I hope that someone can offer some tips on this one. I have a XPS 710 system running windows vista and on Monday it stopped connecting to the web. I have a Linksys cable modem which when I connect my laptop directly works fine. The ip address assigned is 619.**, which I know is bad and if I run ipconfig/renew I get the cannot connect to the DHCP server error. My computer is 1 year old is the Ethernet card bad? Just looking for advice on what I need to do.
Cheers
David

I had a similar problem - see the post titled Not getting IP address from DHCP on Router
Basically, I uninstalled McAfee and my PC then was able to pick up the correct IP address from the DHCP service on my router.

Could be - I'd have a look at whatever software you have installed and try and uninstall to see if it cures it. Maybe try firewall software first - just so happened in my case, McAfee was the first one I tried to remove.
