Unable to connect to the Internet using wireless connection

Hello,

I just received my XPS(Inspirion) M140 notebook today from Dell.  I am able to connect to the Internet if I use my local area connection.  However, when using my wireless connection I receive a notification stating that I have "little or no connectivity".  I have retried connecting to the Internet using unsecured wireless networks in my area as well with no success.

I have an Intel PRO Wireless 2915ABG Network card.  I am using a Linksys Broadband router with a Wireless-G Access Point (802.11g).   I am able to find wireless networks in my area.  I can connect to other computers in my network after receiving the connectivity message.  However, I am unable to acquire an IP address.  I have tried repairing the connection but to no avail.

Does anyone have any information that may help me to resolve this issue?  Thanks in advance.

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Yes it is on.  I retried it to make sure and re-repaired the connection.  I'm still getting the same message.  I forgot to mention that I am not using the Intel PRO software to manage my wireless connection.  I saw that in another post but it didn't matter.

Is the wireless radio turned on?  Try hitting the Fn F2 key combination which toggles the radio on and off.

Have your tried resetting the router by turning it off and then back on?  Are you running any firewall software that may be misconfigured and not allowing the connection?  Have you tried installing the latest drivers for the wireless card?  Do you have any security settings configured on the router, like MAC address filtering, WEP or WPA encyrption?  (Since you can't connect to other non-secure networks, I doubt this is the problem, but I'm just trying to eliminate all possibilites).

I was unable to connect with other equipment to the Internet even when my new laptop could not.  They are all routing through the same device.  I did not reboot my router because of that.  I do have WEP encryption and I match my laptop's wireless network settings with that of another laptop I have.  The other laptop can connect but my new one cannot.  Again, I am able to connect to my home office network using that connection.  I can use my other computers to see my laptop.  I just can not access the Internet with it.

I have updated the drivers for the wireless card through the Dell site.  I disabled my firewall, both the Windows Firewall and the McAfee Security Center one.  I'm not sure what else I can do at this point.  The wireless network is properly configured.  It was an existing network I have been using for a year now.  Additionally, I can't connect to anyone else's either that isn't "secured".  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for helping me so far.

Triple check the WEP key.  Also remember that if the router and network adapter are not from the same manufacturer, you cannot use the Pass Phrase - you must use the hex key.
