Unimodem half & full duplex Audio Devices and Modem Wave driver
I have a Precision 210 running XP professional.
The problem I have is that no matter what modem I install I can not get the Modem Wave drivers to function. According to "Device Manager", "Sound, video and games controllers", "Unimodem say Half-duplex Audio Device", Properties, Properties tab, expand Audio Devices, properties of Modem Wave Driver says: "Status: Driver is enabled but not functioning properly".
I am trying to use an external 56k message modem by U.S. Robotics. This modem comes with a copy of PhoneTools which too install without a problem and recognises the modem as "56K Message Modem External European PnP". How ever despite the fact that I have been talking to U.S Robotics support people almost every day for the last month listening and following their repetative most of the time contradictory instrauctions I have not been able to:
1) Get the modem to consistantly receive faxes. Most of the time after receiving one fax quite correctly it refuses to receive another one or even send one unless the machine is rebooted.
2) Get the phone functionality working so that the voice on the other side of a telephone line gets through to the speakers who have been working perfectly with CD, DVD players, web radios and so on.
3) Get the phone functionality to work consistantly enough even when forgetting about the speakers and using a pair of head phones directly plugged into the modem.
For a time I gave up on US Robotics and bought a Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem which has exactly the same problem with less features.
1) There is either a conflict between the modems PCI or external and the on board sound system. I have upgraded the sound card with the latest drivers dated February 2003. driver problem
