Upgrade network adapter for use on 5ghz router

Hi, recently bought a Dell Inspiron 3543 laptop, we have also recently moved to an apartment and are having problems with WiFi interference and am looking at buying a better router that has 5ghz.

Unfortunately my laptop has the Dell Wireless 1704 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 (GHz) adapter so this is not possible, was wondering is it possible to have a new adapter installed and if so how would I go about it?

Thanks.

Hi,

It's hard to give you specific recommendations but one thing I wanted to warn you about is the form factors when looking for upgraded wireless cards.  The DW1704 card (and the Inspiron 3543 system) is a half height mini-pci card.   When you're searching for cards to upgrade with you'll find that many of the newer dual band cards are available in the M2 form factor.

You might want to look at something like the Intel 7260AC card but not the Intel 7265AC card as that is an M2 form factor.

As for how to install the card, you can go to our main support site, input your service tag, and the system will redirect you to pages specific to your system. On there you will be able to find user manuals for your system, which will show you how to uninstall (and install) the wireless card in your system.

I hope this helps.  If you have more questions please let me know.

Todd
