WIFI week/no signal at DELL VOSTRO

Hello,

My computer:

DELL VOSTRO 3560

Service tag (S/N):

CODE: 128-058-031-09

Network Adapter: DELL Wireless 1704 802.11b/g/n with driver 7.35.352.0

Problem description:

I have issue with my week WIFI signal. In my previous flat I had router in my room so it worked, but i changed my living place. I compered WIFI signal with my fiancée at INSSIDER program. In the same place (on AUSUS X210E with Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter) she has -50 dBm signal, but in DELL laptop there is only -70 dBm and connection isn’t stable. Please give me a hint. I need to solve the problem.

Thanks for all advice!

PS. Sorry for my English.

Last week I split into parts my laptop. I changed WiFi Adapter in Vostro 3560 from DELL 1704 to Intel Wireless-N 7260 (moreover I changed thermal paste on CPU too). Now the signal is -50 dBm from (-70 dBm) :) Thanks DELL for collaboration with Intel :) Measurements from speedtest net are the same like my fiancée Asus but ping time is much better: 2 ms :) In the night, when no one using Wifi, the connection speed is the same like on cable :) Problem solved.

Thanks for Your answer. I reinstalled WiFi driver and after update from Dell SupportAssist my currently version is 7.35.267. I changed all the power settings in Windows and Network Adapter properties. It did't help and signal strength is on the same level. I didn't change the Network Adapter Properties

Posted by DELL-Saharsh K on 26 Oct 2013 5:13 form Your link, because options in this tab are different in my driver version. Any proposition?

Situation with my wifi connection evaluated. I changed router in flat from TP-LINK WR340G to ASUS RT-N18U. Encouraged me to buy this model ASUS RF technology (...marketing?). I'm disappointment, because the signal strength is on the same level. Of course data transfer is a little faster ('g' vs 'n' protocol) and now I can work on my laptop (slow, but can).

Probably Dell 1704 is basted on Broadcom bcm943142y chip. In the Internet there is a lot of complain about this card (performance, 1x1, etc.). I decided to change wifi card. I'm wandering: is Vostro 3560 will be work with Intel Wireless-N 7260 (PCIe Half Mini Card)? Are builded two antenas the same (Rx/Tx)?  Intel card is 2x2 so I asking.

Hi MichalM1,

Were you able to troubleshoot with Dell Tech Support?  They would have the answers to those questions.

Also, have you tried an external USB wifi to see if it is the internal card?  What happens when you plug an ethernet cable into the computer?  Does the internet function then?

@ DELL-Robert P

1. They didn't help. "...the card must be the same type (read with DELL as manufacturer)..."

2. I didn't try, but pleas read again my first post. There is the comparison of two computers.

3.

Measurements on the VOSTRO 3560 using speedtest.net (Internet 50/50 Mbits):

a) cable connection: ping - 7 ms, down - 50.35 Mbits, up  - 50.49 Mbits

b) Wifi connection: ping - 7 ms, down - 8.24 Mbits, up -25.83 Mbits (on previous router was worst)

Measurements on the AUSUS X210E using speedtest.net on the same place and configuration

a) cable connection: - I didn't check

b) Wifi connection: ping - 18 ms, down - 26.72 Mbits, up -38.93 Mbits.
