WLAN Card Utility: What Happens if Uninstalled?

I have Dell WLAN Card Utility installed but nothing happens when I click on it.... Does uninstalling it effect connectivity?  Right now, I connect to internet OK, but occasionally lose connection momentarily.... I have Version 4.100.15.8 on an Inspiron 9300 using Windows XP.  Is the Card Utility the same thing as the 130 mb Dell Wireless LAN Card found on Add/Remove Programs?  I am using Netgear wireless router and Hughesnet....

There are 2 ways you can connect to your wireless router.

1. Through Dell WLAN Card utility.

2. Windows WZC.

If you loose connection momentarily. Do this.

1. Update to the newest driver by downloading it from http://support.dell.com

2. Change the wireless channel to 11. Go inside your wireless router settings and change the settings :)

That should help (However any high tension electric wire, radio devices like chordless, speakers, room heaters and microwave also affect wireless)

Have a nice day :)

Well when you go to start > Dell WLAN> utility what happens? Also you should be able to locate the icon in the system tray.

And actually its strange that you router works cool on channel 2 :) nice to hear that though. One more thing uninstalling that utility wouldnt affect your wireless but. Depends in case it might also uninstall the wireless driver which is not good.

Thanks for your response.... I think, using what you say, IF I could get the Dell WLan Card Utility to open, I would have 3 ways to connect: 1. using Windows software, 2. using Dell's, and 3. Using Netgear's. I am given a choice of using Windows or Netgear when I reboot, but, again, no signs of how I could use Dell.... though I'd love to give Dell a try, if I cannot open it, I will uninstall if I can be assured that it will not impact my ability to connect via alternative routes.....

BTW, in tweaking my Netgear router, I found I get my strongest signal using Channel 2

I go to Start, Programs, Dell Wireless (which I have put into a folder called DELL so I have everything Dell in one place), Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility and I click on it and NOTHING happens.... This is the link that is identified by the little wireless tower with radio waves emanating from it.  To be clear, this link is aiming at wltray.exe...

It sounds as though, unless I am willing to potentially reconstruct what may be inadvertently removed if I uninstall Dell WLAN Card Utility, I'm better off just letting it be...... it probably has nothing to do with the temporary disconnects anyway....

Well my man..

Old saying "Let the sleeping dogs lie" it doesnt do any harm and you dont use it. It can be activated you might be seeings some bars BUT if you are using Vista its of no use. I hope I have been able to answer your questions.
