WPA security for TM1400 MiniPCI - D400 running W2000
Folks,
Have been searching around the forum for a while, but could not find the answer to my question. I have just got my new D400 (excellent product!) for work, which I also want to use from my home network via the TM2300 router' wireless connection (also a neat piece!).
I am pretty much concerned abut using the wireless connection without a proper encryption, so wanted to go for WPA (WEP just works fine).
However - up to my knowledge -, WPA works only under XP (I have already read the corresponding MS article about the necessary XP patch), and MS does not seem to handle this question under Windows 2000 - which is a pitty for me. I cannot upgrade my W2k to XP for many reasons, just one for all: this is the company standard.
Just D/L-d the latest driver (R63259) for the card, hoping it would contain some upgrade for W2k as well - I originated this idea from some Compaq softpaqs, that upgraded old WLAN cards (and apparently the OS too?) to be able to handle WPA -, but nothing found to address/fix this issue.
Please, anyone (maybe DELL folks?) with an idea, how can I go for WPA on W2k - very much appreciated.
Thanks and Regards

You need a WPA supplicant for Windows 2000. See this article for details: http://www6.tomshardware.com/network/20030710/nktwpa-06.html

Thanks for the post.
Indeed, I have already seen those supplicants, but disregarded them because they are not free... hoped the vendor (i.e., DELL) would provide also an update on the client software - since the new driver is being told as capable of WPA.
Maybe DELL gets the idea of saving $40-50 for their customers, once Microsoft did not...
Thanks and Best Regards

Dell can't really just update the client software; a supplicant is needed. They could purchase licenses for these and distribute them freely thru the download section (though I'd think they'd need to find some way to lock it to Dell machines). How likely that is for happening is anyone's guess.
