What does the small x represent??

I bought a new computor from Dell. It has a conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem in it.

What does the small x stand  for? Will it handle modem on hold and caller id?

The small x means 2.

This is a link to information I found about your computer. http://www.modem-help.com/mfcs.php?mid=29&nid=14151

v.9x means it supports both the v.90 and v.92 modem standards. v.92 is needed for modem on hold, for example. Some ISP dial-up numbers may not support v.92 so your modem will automatically function using the v.90 protocol. If the connection speed is slow, sometimes adding a configuration string to your modem's startup software that forces it to use only v.90 may or may not improve the speed.
