Are you sure your Surfboard modem only has a USB connection?  Many of these modems have both ethernet and USB.    If it only has a USB connection, you will have to buy a new modem, as routers that can connect by USB are next to impossible to find and are quite expensive if you can find one.

and in order to give you my best advice i need to know please how much your willing to spend and how much pc's are going to be connecting on it and stuff like that  and you just connect the ethernet cable to the wireless router and get another cable and connect it to one pc or you can use all pc's wireless

It does have both but I am not sure if my computer has an ethernet card. and if it does I assume I have to uninstall the usb drivers that I installed. How do I find out if I have and ethernet card?

varcs,

It would also be helpful to know which model computer you are currently connecting by USB to the modem.  Note that most Dell models sold within the last 6 years have built-in ethernet, but PCI ethernet network adaptors cost less than $10.

If you tell me the model of the computer, I can tell you whether or not it has a built in ethernet adapter.   It most likely does have one, but without the exact model, I can't tell you for sure.

The Dimension 3000 has an ethernet built in to the motherboard.  See box 3 in the Setup Diagram that came with your computer -
