WinXP SP 2, WinSockXPFix.exe, Format, O No.
The problem is complicated to explain lets hope the solution is easy.
To start of I've had the same network setup for 2 years now. Never had a problem, never changed the setup. Setup is: my computer and flatmate's laptop hooked up to a router (Sitecom) and router connected to ADSL modem.
After installing WinXP SP2 about two weeks ago i got a limited connection error concerning the network. Great, solution: reset the router. *Fixed*
After another week or so problem returns to haunt me. Why?: Most probaly Ad aware removeing certain spyware that messed up my tcp/ip stack. Great, solution: WinSockXPFix.exe. *Fixed*
30 minutes later. Punkbuster (software that prevents little hackers from cheating on gameing servers for i.e. CounterStrike and Call of Duty. site:
www.evenbalance.com) sais that it has inadequate O/S privileges and thus effectively kicks me of every single server.
Tired of not being able to use my computer as I would want to I do a complete Format of the C drive which contains WinXP. After reinstallation my computer will not connect to the network at all. The network wizard does his job but nothing shows up in my network connections. I cant seem to get to my router while it was working 1 hour ago. My Flatmate has no problems at all, he is useing the router and internet. Device Manager indicates that the network card is correctly installed (I've done over 5 formats with this pc, and no problems whatsoever with the network card at those times).
I've downloaded the XPSP2 pack and some hot fix from the Microsoft website, i've also retried the winsockxpfix. (By uesing my flatmates laptop and burning it to cd)
Intel Pro Set II (which comes with the Dell Resource CD) indicates the drivers for the network card are not installed correctly so for now I'm going to try getting new drivers for the network card however I have a suspicion it wont work at all.
If the support could somehow help me out here I wont tear all my hair out. Thanks in advance.
Alexander

Great, That worked lol. Installed new drivers for the ethernet adapter that was at the 'other devices' in device manager. How stupid can a person be. Anyway Thanks for nothing. ;)
