Wirelees Network and Inspiron 8200 unable to connect using Linksys G notebook adaptor.

I have recently purchased a Linksys WIreless G  Mod WRT54GS router and a Notebook Adaptor WPC54GC.  My systemis running XP SP2.

Everything installed okay except the computer will not connect with the router.  It detects the network but will not connect.  I have tried this in both secured and unsecured mode.

I called Linksys and after many hours of troubleshooting over the phone I rec.  2 answers

A.  There is an IRQ conflect call Dell.

B.  THere is an issue with SP2 and must be uninstalled.  I did this and then spent the next 3 days reformating my hard drive and reinstalling software as I use this alptop for work also.

I borrowed anther brand of equipment D link and had the same issues.

The Linksys tech support is located oversea as is the Dell support.  Linksys tech support is hit or miss.  THe dell tech support says it is an aftermarket issue and points the finger at linksys.

I can't be specific in my help, but I will note that, as much as I like the Linksys products, I have not been thrilled with the quality of their phone technical support.

If there is an IRQ conflict (which I doubt since the card installs and detects the router), that must be addressed. Open Device Manager and see what devices the Linksys card shares IRQ's with. However, I would really discount this as a problem is there is not an exclamation point in a yellow circle besides the card listing. You could try disabling other devices on the same IRQ. I found on my I8200 that I have to disable the Infrared in the BIOS to get the older Linksys card to work.

Make sure that both the router and the card are set at defaults. Don't enable any security functions and make sure the router is broadcasting SSID. You might need to reset the router to make sure everything gets back to default. Make sure both are on the same channel (usually 11 is preferred, but try others). I don't know about the newer card installation procedures, but there were some problems installing the drivers in XP with the older cards and you had to play with that a bit. That should have been worked out by now. Make sure you have the latest drivers for the card and firmware for the router. You can download the latest from the Linksys site.

Since the card is seeing the router, everything seems to be working at the basic level. You might check the properties for the Linksys network and make sure that no special security provisions have been set. Once you get the two to talk to one another, then you should start implementing the security features, but not before.

I have run into issues, similar to yours. Be sure you have the correct and most updated drivers for your pc card. Also, let windows detect your pc card before you install the drivers for it. After uninstalling my ethernet card and reinstalling it, the card seems to talk to my network afterwards.
