Wireless Connection Problem with Intel 4965AGN

Question

Operating System:Windows Vista 32-bit
Computer Brand: Inspiron 1520
Wireless Network card name: Intel (R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

Although I am able to connect to wireless networks, there seems to be a problem with me getting access to the internet. Also I am having hard difficulty in receiving constant wireless signals (i.e. the wireless network in my house is being disconnected / not found from time to time)

After numerous of reseraches done on the internet regarding to this issue, I have found out that there is a utility download available on the dell website regarding to connection issues with inspiron 1520 or 1720, with wireless cards Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection Intel (R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

However, after my download (and installation) the program didn't fix the wireless problems as expected. Does anyone have any ideas as of what to do to resolve my wireless connection issues? I have also reinstalled the driver, but that had no impact on the wireless network performance.

Hi,   Intel 4965AGN is a draft N wireless card, where draft N means draft specification of 802.11n standard. In other words this standards is not officially approved and would lead to compatibility and connectivity issues with most wireless routers. Below are some troubelshooting steps you could follow to test if it improves the wireless connectivity.   1) On the Wireless Card - Go into device manager -- Right Click on the Intel Wireless Card -- Properties -- Advanced Tab     2) On the wireless router (if it is a draft N router), you could try modifying settings that could help you get a proper connection. Thanks for your reply best-try, I will try altering the 802.11n mode in the wireless properties section. Although I have adjusted all of the properties in there before, I will try again and see if I get better wireless connectivity.   My second question is this: if i'm unsatisified with my netwrok card even after all the altering, would it be possible to switch network cards within my laptop? And if its possible, which network cards would be a smart option when it comes to stability and speed?   At first I was looking for the fastest network card available when purchasing my computer, but now I'm regretting this purchase as not only does it fail to outperform others when it comes to speed but it also fails to function properly.   Perhaps let me ask this; what type of wireless networks should this network card have no problem connecting to?

Alternatives are as below;

Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection - A/B/G Card

Dell Wireless 1390/1490 Internal Wireless - A/B/G Card

Also note that disabling the 802.11n mode on the wireless card will make it act like a standard G card. In other words, you need not look for the alternatives above.

I browsed through google and found this link - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=130481 which talks about the recommended n routers for Intel 4965 wireless card. Hope it helps but i am not sure to what extent is the information true.
