If by wireless connection you mean Wi-Fi wireless networks, you should be fine, provided it's a free Wi-Fi hotspot or you have been given access to a private secured network.

If you want wireless broadband, you will need to refer to your mobile phone service provider about International roaming charges and hardware compatibility - you may need GSM compatible equipment.

many countries offer different channel sets than the US. I'm not sure about your case but it's possible that an AP will be operating outside of the US channel set.

for some cards the country/channel set can be set via the driver properties. for others there are seperate drivers for each location that you should install or have ready prior to the trip.

It should be fine in most cases.  The only difference is the extra channels allowed by some countries, e.g., EU: channels 12 & 13; Japan: channel 14.  The 1st 11 channels are the same.

Many manufacturers offer a single version firmware for most countries so only 11 channels are provided no matter where you are, e.g., Buffalo (except in Japan).
