You need to open the command prompt window, like I said. Go to Start > Run then type cmd and hit OK. In the command prompt window, you type ipoconfig /all. The window will stay open and you will be able to see the output. If you just type ipconfig /all in Start > Run, then you will get the behavior you describe.
When you say "any time I try using Internet Explorer, nothing happens", exactly what do you mean? Do you get an error message or something telling you that the page was not found? What kind of wireless network are you trying to connect to (a router, hotspot, office system, etc.)? Are you getting an IP address on your wireless network card? To find out, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click on OK. Now type ipconfig /all (note the space between the g and the /). What IP address are you getting for the wireless card?

Yes, when I open IE, it says that the page cannot be displayed, and when I try to open AIM, it tells me there is no connection.
It is running through a linksys router, but the router is not mine.
When I tried to find my ipconfig like you said, the window would only flash and close.

Ok, you appear to be getting a proper IP address from the router. Try downloading and running lspfix from the following site:
