XPS 8500 dropping wireless network connection

Periodically I will loose internet connection even though when I click on  the wireless applet in the tray it says connected. If I disconnect and re-connect it will work fine for a few hours. Takes all of 20 seconds to do. Anyone else having problems with 1703 wireless card? Have installed the hatest drivers.

Hi hodget,

Check the wireless connection in Safe mode with networking (restart the computer and tapping F8 on dell logo. Select Safemode with networking).

Also try updating the wireless drivers on the computer.

Uninstall and reinstall the wireless network drivers for the computer.

Uninstall:

  • Open the "Start" menu and click "Control Panel."
  • Type "Device Manager" in the search bar at the top right of the screen, then click the "Device Manager" heading that appears in the search results.
  • Click the "+" symbol next to your desktop's name, and again next to "Network adapters."
  • Right click “Wireless card”, click “Uninstall.
  • Check the box “Delete driver software for this device”, click ok and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the wireless drivers.

Install the wireless card drivers from the below mentioned link:

If the issue persists, try updating the update the wireless router's firmware to the latest available.

Still having the same issue. Linksys 4500 router has latest firmware. Deleted 1703 wireless card and reinstalled it. No better. Disabled the 1703 and connected a netgear USB wireless card. Is there a better dell N card that I could use. Or can you recommend another external card that would work reliably.?
