another failure to renew IP address

Wireless connection died yesterday after working fine.

I've tried every solution mentioned in virtually all postings about the failure to renew an IP address for a wireless connection. Any other suggestions?

Have placed cable modem and wireless router next to desktop. Cable from either the modem or router works. Desktop can connect to wireless router but not renew the IP address.  My Palm Pre can connect and works with the wireless router. No recent software installed. Have had Internet Explorer 8 for awhile. Windows & PC-cillin antivirus are set for auto updates. Swaped cables.

For anyone with this issue: the one solution I didn't find in the Dell Forums and the only one I didn't try was to redo the set up for the wireless router - push in the reset button on the back of the wireless router and create a new SSID, new encryption password/key, etc. Don't know what went wrong with the orginal set up, but this worked.

I have no idea whether or not this might be your problem, but with my Linksys router (same model), whenever there is even the briefest power interruption, the router seems to lose its configuration, and I have to reload it. This is basically what you have done by resetting the router and then entering all of the required settings.

Open your router software (configuration), click on Administration and then on Config Management. If you have NOT backed up the current configuration, do so by clicking on the "Backup" button. Save the file to wherever is convenient for you. Then, if this happens again, follow the same procedure, only this time select the "Restore" button. Direct the restore to the file you saved previously.

As I said, this may not be your problem but it's worth a try.
