connected but no internet

Hi, i seriously need help with my dell dimension 3000.
I reformatted the computer due to a virus, and reinstall a clean version. all files deleted.
install the windows xp without any service packs.
installed all drivers, and a chipset available for download on dell's website (just in case its required)

then i installed my netgear usb router. after the installation i am able to connect to my modem. it detected signal. and everything seems to be fine.
however, although im connected, the internet does not work.

what is wrong??

Did you install the chipset drivers before even attempting to install the other drivers?  The chipset drivers are required and must be installed first.

Is this a cable modem or a dsl modem?  Are you connecting to the modem by ethernet or USB?  If by ethernet, then there is no software that needs to be installed.    Can you explain what a Netgear USB router is (I've never heard of a USB router).  Model Number?

If you are connected to the router and are getting good signal and a proper IP address (192.168.X.X), then it could be that the router isn't configured right.

You might want to check that.
