It means that your security settings won't allow programs to run that could potentially be harmful to your computer. Active X is a Microsoft invention that allows internet sites to run programs on your computer. You need to adjust you Security Settings in Internet Explorer to either prompt you before running Active X Controls, or to enable Active X controls. The Security settings are reach by opening Internet Explorer, clicking on Tools > Internet Options, then on the Security tab. I recommend that you either set the security settings to their default levels, do a search using google.com for web sites that explain the safest and least intrusive settings to use, or post in the Software - Windows XP forum and ask for advice on how to best set your security settings. Mine are at the default level, but the default level is not recommended for everyone.
Hi, I know you guys posted this a while ago but i think i might be having a similar problem. I got one of those AIM viruses. I deleted a lot of the files that came with it but I'm still having problems. ActiveX is messing up. I know you go into IE and then options and computer, but it wont let me change the settings from high to anything else. Nothing shows up right on Norton Systemworks or Firewall. I have no idea what to do. Please help
I cannot access many websites because I get an error message that reads "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly". I have reset the security settings under tools and internet options in IE. I have run spyware software recommended by Dell (I think it's called CounterSpy by sunbelt software) and have completely removed my Norton anti-virus software. I still cannot access these pages including windows update (I get the ActiveX error message) or the e-mail Dell support page (I get a "page not found" error). HELP!!!!! Any ideas out there???
