help w/ pcmcia network ethernet card

i bought a network everywhere pcmcia ethernet 10/100 pc card.  The device is installed and working properly according to the properties under the device manager.

when i click on to internet explorer.  i get nothing.  i cannot browse the internet.

I am using a lattitude cpir w/ xp.  It is connected to my cable modem.  can anyone help me.

Go to the Command Prompt and type in (without the quotation marks) "ipconfig /all" and look for the IP address. If the number states out with 169.254.xxx.xxx then the system is unable to contact a DHCP server, anything else should be valid. Ping the "Default Gateway", does it reply back. Try pinging the DNS servers. If you cannot, contact your ISP.
