The latest driver version (version: 6.00 - Release Date: 05/16/2002) from Dell is "here".
The latest generic driver version (version: 8.30) for your "LT WinModem (1646 chipset)" from Agere (formerly Lucent) is "here".
Run the "LtRemove.exe" (for a clean install of the new driver) from ”Safe Mode” before installing the driver/firmware package download (click "Start/ Run" and type "LtRemove.exe). Then install the driver and reboot.
