network card integrated with motherboard?

I have a Inspiron 9100 and my internal network card AND my wireless internet card blew out on me.  I asked an service associate at Fry's Electronics and he said that for a dell, the network card is integrated with the motherboard and that I would most likely have to replace the motherboard.  Is this for sure?  If not, is it hard to replace financially?  I don't have warranty anymore.  It has been more than 1 and a half years. Please help!  Thanks

Yes, the ethernet network card is integrated on the motherboard and the only way to replace it is to replace the motherboard.  The alternative is buy a PC card ethernet network adapter and plug into the PCMCIA slot on the side of your computer.
