svc host.exe application error message

Question

Since networking two computers, on shut down the following error message appears svc host.exe application error / the instruction at 0x77f886f2 referenced memory at 0x0050005c the memory could not be written. I have tried disc check, defrag, Dell diagnostics, checking network connections and settings.  No problems registerd. No problems operating applications, Office, AutoCad, Paintshop etc etc Whilst the references change (0x77f886f2) the content of the error message is always the same.  The computer will continue to shut down if the message is ignored. No problem connecting to internet from either computer, no problem sharing files. Only the host computer has the problem on shut down. Can't help wonder whats up, Dell technical support closed Please HELP!!!!!! PS connected to internet via NTL broadband.

The most likely cause is the 'blaster' worm. See this article from Symantec and this one from Microsoft for advice on repairing the problem. You should keep the system up to date with Microsoft critical windows updates, and run a firewall on the machine that's directly connected to the Internet. Jim
