wireless N only connects 54 Mbps
I have a Dell Vostro 1720 with a Dell 1510 N wireless adapter and I have a N router. I get an excellant connection, I have checked and the router is set to mixed n/g/b mode. Why can't the laptop seem to connect above 54 Mbps? The router is on a lower level mounted on a wall literally 5 feet away from the laptop. I went to the advanced properties of the wireless card and I changed the ibss mode from 802.11a/b/g/ Auto to 802.11a/b/g/n Auto. That seemed to make no difference. Not sure what IBSS 54g Protection Mode is - but that is set to Auto and Afterburner is set to Disabled. Do I need to change something else to get above 54 Mbps?

Hi,
Yes this is resolved. I actually had no hardware issue. To get higher speeds you have to use AES encryption and not TKIP. I had set most of my wireless devices to use TKIP so when I set the router up that's what I used. As sooh as I changed the encryption on the router and laptop, rebooted both, I had much higher speeds.
FYI....from a few feet away I connected at 300Meg, in the normal use position I get 120 to 150Meg - the value fluctuates with the data flying around.
Good Luck to you and your situation.

Hi.
Did you ever get this resolved? If so, could you please tell me? I have the exact same issue between my 1510 card and my D-Link DIR-655 router.
If you didn't, could you also let me know?
Thank you for your time.

Hey Thanks Anthony.
Yeah. I endned uptweaking the router settings and it made the difference. Plus I used the 20/40MHz broacast instead os only 20Mhz. SO now all is well. Same performance as you.
Thanks again for your time.
