wireless connection to my linksys
sorry....I am new...and not particularly up to speed on wireless networking.
I have a standard dell computer running XP and hooked into a wireless linksys router that then goes to a cable modem out to the internet....it is what I am typing this message on.
I just bought a internal wireless enabled Inspirion 2200. I want to 'connect' the laptop to the linksys wireless router.
I know the wireless network works because I have a Tivo set top box that is wireless connected to the linksys to get the Tivo updates.
The Inspirion 2200 sees the network, but for some reason can't connect to it.
I don't even know where to begin as to how to fix this??? any advice would be helpful
thanks
shawn

When you set up the router, do you recall enabling any of these settings? You know you can download the user's guide for your router at the Linksys web site - www.linksys.com. You will need to know which model router you have.

Did you enable any of the wireless security settings on the router? For example did you enable MAC address filtering to only allow devices with specific MAC addresses to connect? Did you enable WEP or WPA encryption? If either of these are enabled, you will have to either disable them until you are sure you can make a connection, or set them up properly on both the router and the wireless card on the laptop.

thanks so much for replying so quickly....but I haven't got a clue how to do what you just said.
I have long since lost any of the documents that came with the linksys router...its about a year and a half old.
how do I start?
